7 Tips to Reduce Seasonal Allergies in Children
By: Libby Darnell
No one likes Hay-Fever. Runny and snotty noses, no fun! If you have a baby, those sucking devices are the things of nightmares!
It’s a terrible thing to see our kids suffer with symptoms to allergies and it’s even harder to see them suffer through the side effects of medications¹ like drowsiness, nausea and even moodiness.
Helping our kids deal with their symptoms can be a challenge, especially if you are looking for natural remedies for allergies to avoid the use of medications.
However, home remedies for kids allergies are out there and we can set our children up for success during the allergy season using natural means!
Follow these 7 steps to alleviate allergies naturally to ensure an easier, allergy-free year with your kids.
7 Steps to Relieve Seasonal Allergies
Open your windows! (Yes, I said it)!
The EPA² has found that in-door air pollution is 3-5 times more polluted and toxic than outdoor air! By simply allowing fresh in, and bad air out, your kiddos will be able to breathe easier!
Change your All-Purpose Cleaner
Its no secret that the cleaners we use contain harsh chemicals³, which can be irritating to our lung tissues, leading to breathing problems and sinus issues. A simple mixture of water, vinegar, and lemon essential oil (one of the great essential oils for allergies) can perform better and help keep you healthy.
Switch out your Vapor Rub with essential oils for allergies.
A simple mixture of one drop of BREATHE essential oil and coconut oil out performs traditional vapor rub, and contains healthy fats and health boosting peppermint! (There are several great EO brands, however I’ve provided an Amazon affiliate link to the one myself and my team use).
Ditch the Sugar and Dairy when Times Get Tough!
A lifestyle without conventional dairy and sugar is healthy overall, reducing those food ingredients in times of allergies and sickness helps to calm the inflammatory response in the body. Don’t underestimate this! This is one of the BEST tools to use in times of illness.
Adding healing juices to your diet is also and excellent way to support the immune system.Be sure to click below and download my Top 10 Juice Cleanse Recipes that incorporate low sugar fruits and veggies for the best effect on your family’s health.
Ditch Your Laundry Detergent and Fabric Softener
Want to wear toxins and chemicals 24-hours per day? That’s what you’re doing if you’re using conventional laundry detergent and fabric softener. Make a switch to wool dryer balls (saves money!) and eco and child friendly laundry detergent and BREATHE EASIER!
Set them up for Sleep Success
If your child typically sleeps 8 hours per night, they MINIMALLY need 1-2 additional hours of sleep when allergies and illness come calling. While most children will do this naturally, encouraging an earlier sleep time will avoid throwing off their schedule the next day.
Say No To Carpets!
You may already have carpets, and that’s ok. Just make sure to vacuum them every 48 hours to eliminate allergens, and use pet and kid friendly carpet cleaner. When budget allows, aim to swap out your carpets with hard woods or cork flooring. This vastly reduces your exposure to allergen buildup and is a wonderful all-natural way to alleviate allergies naturally.
Yes, you can alleviate allergies naturally! Choose one or more of the steps above to begin moving toward a year with less symptoms of seasonal allergies and a life in which you and your kids can breathe easier!
